Welcome to oneoldshopman.com

Most things posted here are just for fun. I will post pictures of projects, activities and hopefully fun stuff.

The farm shop is on the Chappell family farm. The shop is 40ft by 40ft enclosed, with 30ft by 40ft as an open drive through work area. Mostly I tinker with tractors, trucks and trailers for fun, since I was disabled in 2000. In the shop there is a 1940's South Bend, Model A, 9 inch by 54 inch lathe , a 6 inch by 30 inch knee mill and a Jet 20 inch drill press. There are gas and electric welders, wood working tools and more.

I spend most of my time making or repairing items for the farm and friends. There is an open door policy at the shop, "If the door on the shop is open drop in". There is a fully stocked fridge and a bathroom that is always available to law enforcement personnel.

I hope those that find my page, stop and enjoy it.

Cleaning Massey Ferguson 596 Four Wheel Drive Tractor

South Bend 9 Inch Model

This is a rare '"V" belt drive 16 speed lathe. Most lathes of this type were driven by a flat 2 inch belt and were only 8 speeds. This lathe has the factory taper attachment. The lathe was disassembled, cleaned and serviced by me after buying it from a small automotive shop in Lancaster, South Carolina. In the late 1990's I had seven South Bend lathes in the shop being serviced for resale. This upset the wife some, as we had to make a 36 hour road trip to Falls River Mass. and West Philly Pa. from home to pick up two lathes I bought on eBay. I had bid on each expecting to win only one but things happen.
